315 of the 543 MPs in the 16th Lok Sabha are first timers



More than 50 % of Members of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha are first timers, the highest number of debutants in the last 30 years. 

According to data by PRS Legislative Research, 315 of the 543 MPs have been elected for the first time. 


The BJP has 164 first-time MPs, including Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi.Also AIADMK has most MPs who are first timers



226 MPs (42 %) have returned to the Lok Sabha more than once and MP's like Ram Vilas Paswan from Bihar, Kamal Nath from Madhya Pradesh and P.A. Sangma from Meghalaya will make their 9th appearance in the House. 

MPs like Kariya Munda, Shibu Soren, Sumitra Mahajan and Arjun Charan, who have won Lok Sabha elections for the 8th time. 

Sumitra Mahajan, BJP MP from Indore, now holds the distinction of being the most experienced woman MP.
