Sydney Smith(28)from Los Angeles, California, Used Tribal Copper Rings to Lengthen Her Neck to 11 INCHES

A woman who has been dubbed ‘The Giraffe Lady’ has discussed how she started using copper rings to lengthen her neck to almost 11 inches long.

Sydney Smith(28) from Los Angeles, California, says she has had a lifelong fascination with body modification.

As a child,Sydney Smith says she would improvise by wrapping chopped-up coat hangers around her neck as she slept - a technique she believes actually elongated it.

Sydney Smith first got the idea to wear neck rings when she saw photos of Burmese women from the Kayan tribe

Three years ago, at the age of 25, she took her fixation one step further and started having tight copper rings attached to her neck. 'I had missed the comfort from the pressure on the top of my neck and shoulders,' she reveals.

'I took it slow and would add an extra ring when needed.'

It was only after seeing a Lady Gaga concert that she made the decision to make her rings a permanent feature.

'Her freak empowerment message made a special kind of sense for me,' she explained. 'I figured if she can wear meat dresses, I can be a giraffe woman.'
