Adrianne Haslet-Davis was a dance instructor before losing part of her left leg in the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013.

Before losing her leg, Haslet- Davis taught 20 types of dance at a studio in Boston

Adrianne Haslet-Davis lost part of her left leg when she and husband Adam Davis, a captain in the Air Force, decided to spend April 15, 2013 watching the marathon. She and her husband were two of more than 250 runners and spectators injured in the blasts. Three died from their injuries.

Adrianne Haslet-Davis performed for the first time as an amputee Wednesday March 19,2014  night at the TED conference in Vancouver, British Columbia with a prosthetic specifically designed for dance.

The prosthetic was designed by Hugh Herr, director of the Biomechatronics group at the MIT Media lab.

Hugh Herr is a double-amputee himself, after a rock-climbing accident in 1982. Hugh Herr (left) designed the prosthetic for Haslet-Davis and calls it the first prosthetic specifically made for dancing
