SPD leader Gabriel, parliamentary floor leader
Steinmeierand and SPD Secretary General Nahles arrive to announce result
of member vote for "grand coalition" in Berlin
On Saturday Dec 14,2013,members of Germany's
opposition Social Democrats (SPD) have voted overwhelmingly in favour of
entering a grand coalition government led by centre-right Chancellor
Angela Merkel.
76 % of party members who voted approved the plan.
A new government can now be formed - three months after a general election.
Angela Merkel's conservative CDU/CSU signed a 185-page agreement with the SPD entitled "Shaping Germany's Future" in November 2013
