Railway Bribery Scam


The CBI is probing the alleged bribery in Railways' senior appointments.

Vijay Singla, four others remanded in judicial custody

Five accused, including Railway Minister P K Bansal’s nephew  vijay singla and Mahesh Kumar,suspended Member (Staff) in the Railway Board, were on Thursday remanded in judicial custody till May 20,2013 by a Delhi court in connection with the Rs. 10 crore railway bribery case

 Railway Minister P.K. Bansal’s nephew, V Singla was arrested on Friday May 03,2013 in Chandigarh for accepting Rs. 90 lakh in cash from Manjunath, the conduit for Mahesh Kumar, recently promoted as Member (Staff) in the Raliway Borad.Mahesh Kumar was allegedly trying to get a lucrative position as Member (Electrical). Manjunath was arrested in Bangalore. 


Two courier boys who had allegedly delivered a bribe money of Rs.90 lakh to the nephew of Railway Minister P.K. Bansal on behalf of a Member of Railway Board were also arrested in Chandigarh by the CBI. 

Railway Board Member (Staff) Mahesh Kumar was arrested by the CBI  (for allegedly paying Rs 90 lakh to Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla through a Bangalore-based businessman for managing a coveted post in the Railway Board )in Mumbai by a CBI team soon after he had flown in from Delhi


Bansal distances himself from bribery case

“Regarding yesterday’s incident involving my sister’s firm in a CBI raid at Chandigarh, I have to say that I have no knowledge or proof about the matter at all. Though a close relative, he or any other relative of mine does not and cannot meddle in my official function or influence my decision. There is also no business relationship between his and my family. I have always observed highest standard of probity in public life and look forward to an expeditious investigation by CBI in the matter”
