Turner Prize


The Turner Prize, named after the painter J M W Turner, is an annual prize presented to a British visual artist under the age of 50. Awarding the prize is organised by the Tate Gallery and staged at Tate Britain. Since its beginnings in 1984 it has become the United Kingdom's most publicised art award.

 A shortlist of finalists is drawn up and usually published about six months before the prize is awarded in November or December each year.Each year after the announcement of the four nominees and during the build-up to the announcement of the winner, the Prize receives intense attention from the media.

Turner Prize 2012

Video artist Elizabeth Price has won the Turner Prize for the year 2012.She secured the £25,000 prize for her video installation, The Woolworths Choir of 1979, 2012.
Actor Jude Law presented Price with the award at Tate Britain in London

The other nominees were performance artist Spartacus Chetwynd, video artist Luke Fowler and Paul Noble, a visual artist
