Day 1- India Restrict Austalia to 277/6
The Boxing Day Test between Australia and India got off to an intriguing start on Monday with the momentum swinging through the day until Australia slipped from 205 for three to 214 for six in the final session on day one, which gave India a slight advantage despite a late resistance by Brad Haddin and Peter Siddle that took Australia to 277 for six.

Resuming at the overnight score of 277 for 6, Australia were all out for 333, half an hour before lunch break with Zaheer Khan (4 for 77), Umesh Yadav (3 for 106) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3 for 81)being the wicket takers for India.India's reply of 214/3 was aided by Virender Sehwag who smashed a quickfire 67 and a solid 117-run third wicket partnership between Sachin Tendulkar 73 and Rahul Dravid (68 batting).SachinTendulkar who looked fluent during his innings hit eight boundaries and a six off Siddle with his trademark upper cut over third-man region. Only Gautam Gambhir (3) failed among the top four batsman.
Virender Sehwag completed 8000 Runs in Test Cricket when he reached 20 and became the 5th Indian Player after Sunil Gavaskar,Sachin Tendulkar,Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman to score 8000 Runs and the 23rd batsman in history of Test cricket to complete 8000 Test runs.

Day 1: PONTING AND CLARKE DOMINATE
Australia 335/3 in 90 Overs
Captain Clarke (19th Test ton - 140 not out in 188 balls with19 fours, one six).) and Ricky Ponting (137 not out in 254 balls with 13 fours) came together with the score at 84 for three shortly before lunch and went on to share a record-breaking unbeaten 251-run stand for the fourth-wicket to guide Australia to 335 for three at the close of play.
It was the duo's second double-hundred stand of the series after their 288-run union during the second Test in Sydney
Ricky Ponting passed 13,000 Test runs(touched this milestone when he scored 81st run) the third man behind Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to reach the mark.
Also Ricky Ponting completed his 41st Test century, which was his eighth against India. This was also his sixth century at the Adelaide Oval. He achieved the feat with the help of ten boundaries in 164 balls.
It was Clarke's 5th century in 12 Tests since taking over as skipper and 5th overall against India and 19th Test Ton.

Earlier,resuming from the overnight score of 140 and 137 both Michael Clarke(210 in 275 Balls with 26 fours and a six) and Ricky Ponting(221 in 404 Balls with 21 fours and was the 6th career double-hundred) scored double centuries.The Clarke/Ponting stand of 386 was the highest for any wicket at Adelaide Oval(fell two runs short of the highest Australian partnership for the fourth wicket, 388 by Don Bradman and Bill Ponsford at Headingley in 1934).
It was the first time two Australian had scored double tons in the same innings since 1965
Michael Clarke is only the 3rd player in Test history to score a double hundred and a triple century in the same series.
