2019-20 Premier League - Everton sack Marco Silva as manager after 18 months in charge Thursday Dec 05,2019

Marco Silva was fired by Everton on Thursday Dec 05,2019 after 18 months in charge, a day after his team lost 5-2 at Merseyside rival Liverpool to slip into the relegation zone in the 2019-20 Premier League.

Marco Silva's departure was announced in a short statement by Everton, which also said that Duncan Ferguson, the club's former striker, will take temporary charge for the league game against Chelsea on Saturday Dec 07,2019

Everton are now searching for their fourth permanent boss since Roberto Martinez was sacked in May 2016.

Former Everton manager David Moyes has been considered as a potential interim successor, but the suggestion has sparked a largely negative reaction from supporters and it remains to be seen whether majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and his boardroom colleagues ignore that and invite the 56-year-old Scot to return.

Three other managers, Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, Unai Emery at Arsenal and Quique Sanchez Flores at Watford, have lost their jobs in the English top flight in the past 17 days.

Portuguese Marco Silva(42) is the fifth managerial dismissal in the Premier League this season, after the departures of Javi Gracia - who had replaced Silva at Vicarage Road - and Quique Sanchez Flores from Watford, as well as Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino and Arsenal's Unai Emery.
