BREXIT - British Prime Minister Theresa May gets two-week Brexit reprieve from EU

EU leaders extend Britain's Brexit lifeline, offer new 12 April deadline if UK Parliament fails to back Theresa May's deal

On Thursday night March 21,2019, after eight hours of talks, EU leaders offered to delay Brexit until 22 May if MPs approve British Prime Minister Theresa May's deal next week.

If they do not approve it, the delay will be shorter - until April 12,2019 - at which point the UK must set out its next steps or leave without a deal.

British Prime Minister Theresa May said at a news conference overnight on Friday March 22,2019 that Brussels approved pushing the deadline to May 22 if British lawmakers next week back a withdrawal agreement that they rejected twice before.

If the accord is rejected, Britain will have until April 12 to offer a new plan or choose to quit without a treaty.
