When it comes to prolific strikers in the Premier League in recent years, no list can be complete without Argebtibe hitman Sergio Aguero.
The Argentina international has been a major factor behind Manchester City’s domination in the last seven years and he currently holds the highest goals to games played ratio (0.69) among the footballers with 100 or more goals in the Premier League.
However, when it comes to the Argentina football team, Aguero’s record has been quite underwhelming to say the least.
Aguero has scored just 36 goals in 84 international caps for Argentina and his most impressive year came in 2015 where he scored 10 goals in 10 games for his nation.
The record gets even worse when we consider his record in the FIFA World Cup - a tournament where he has not scored a single goal till date.
In 2010, he played three games and his biggest contribution was setting up Gonzalo Higuain’s third goal in their group stage game against South Korea.
In the next edition, he played five games but was unable to find the back of the net even once as Argentina fell agonisingly close of claiming their first World Cup title since 1986 after losing to Germany in the final
The 29-year old may have faltered in the grandest stage of football, but it will unwise to rule out the brilliance of Sergio Aguero.
With 30 goals under his belt this season, he was a force to be reckoned with in Europe and his brilliance guided Manchester City to yet another Premier League title.
In the FIFA World Cup 2018, he will be supported by Lionel Messi and Juventus FC forward Paulo Dybala at the top of the Argentina attack and though he will face competition from fellow striker Gonzalo Higuain, there can be no better time for Aguero to finally get rid of his World Cup curse.
