With a narrow 2-wicket win in the Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier
League 2018, over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai on Tuesday May 22,2018, Chennai
Super Kings once again showed the world why they are one of the best in
the world.
Chasing a lowly 140, Chennai were struggling at 92/7 but opener Faf Du Plessis scored a blistering 67 from 42 balls to power his team to the final of the tournament.
With this win Chennai made it to a record 7th final in the league from 9 playoff appearances.

2013, Qualifier 1, CSK vs MI (Won by 48 runs)
By the 6th edition of the Indian Premier League, Chennai had established themselves as one of the leading sides in the tournament having lifted the trophy twice. Once again Chennai were the favourites to lift the trophy. In the qualifier 1 against Mumbai Indians, CSK thrashed their opponents to register a 48-run win. Batting first Chennai scored a mammoth 192, riding on Michael Hussey’s 86 and Suresh Raina’s 82. Mumbai looked out of sorts in the run-chase and could only manage 144 runs.
2014, Eliminator, CSK vs MI (Won by 7 wickets)
This was one match where CSK completely outshone their opponents, Mumbai. After being set a challenging target of 174, Raina (54) and David Hussey (40) guided their team to a victory in just 18.4 overs. The duo bailed the team out of a tricky situation, as at once stage CSK was 87/3. There were some useful contributions from Dwayne Smith and Faf Du Plessis in the chase.
2014, Qualifier 2, CSK vs KXIP (Lost by 24 runs)
It is not very often that CSK comes to the playoffs and doesn’t make it to the final of the tournament. Once such occasion was in 2014 when they were knocked out by Kings XI Punjab in qualifier 2. Virender Sehwag started off in a brilliant fashion for Punjab and hit 122 runs from 93 balls. That propelled their scored to mammoth 226 in 20 overs. Always hard to chase totals in excess of 200, CSK lost the match, but not before giving a fight. They scored 202/7 in their 20 overs with Suresh Raina scoring a whirlwind 87 from 37 deliveries, but his innings went in vain.
2015, Qualifier 1, CSK vs MI (Lost by 25 runs)
This was another occasion where Men in Yellow faltered in the playoffs. They lost rather convincingly to Mumbai Indians. After batting first MI scored 187/6 from their 20 overs with Lendl Simmons scoring 65. Pollard too played a cameo and blasted 41 from 17 balls. But SK was all out for 162 only. Faf was the top-scorer for the team with 45.
2015, Qualifier 2, CSK vs RCB (Won by 3 wickets)
After taking a beating in the first qualifier, Dhoni and boys came back stronger show in the second chance to make it to the final. Their bowlers, especially Ashish Nehra was on fire as he rattled Bangalore batting by picking up 3/28. RCB was restricted to a paltry 139. But CSK narrowly won the match on the penultimate ball only. With only Michael Hussey (56) firing with the bat, it was a tough ask for Chennai to go through the finish line
