Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, on Friday morning Jan 19,2018 announced that she and her husband were expecting their first child this year. This year, Ardern will become the second prime minister in the world to give birth while still in office. The first was late Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Jacinda Ardern took to Twitter in the early hours of Friday to announce her pregnancy.
Ardern wrote on Twitter: "We thought 2017 was a big year! This year we’ll join the many parents who wear two hats. I’ll be PM & a mum while Clarke will be “first man of fishing” & stay at home dad. There will be lots of questions (I can assure you we have a plan all ready to go!) but for now bring on 2018 (sic)."
Ardern, a New Zealand Labour Party leader, was sworn in as Prime Minister in October 2017. New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters will take charge of the Prime Minister's office for a period of six weeks, to allow Ardern to take maternity leave
In January 1990, Benazir Bhutto created history by giving birth to her second child and eldest daughter Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari.
