Shashi Kapoor dies at 79 in Mumbai Monday Dec 04,2017



Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passed away at the age of 79 in Mumbai on Monday Dec 04,2017



 The Bollywood legend was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri on Sunday night, reportedly from chest infection.

The actor suffered from the problem even in 2014, post his bypass surgery.

Actor and nephew Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news to indianexpress.com, though he refused to give any further details for now.

 Shashi Kapoor is survived by daughter Sanjana Kapoor and his two sons Kunal Kapoor and Karan Kapoor.

Son of Prithviraj Kapoor and brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, Shashi debuted with the 1961 film Dharmputra.

 He went on to appear in 116 Hindi films. He was honoured with the the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2011.

 In 2015, he was bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, making him the third member of the Kapoor clan to receive the honour, after dad Prithviraj Kapoor and brother Raj Kapoor.

Shashi and his wife Jennifer Kendal established the Prithvi Theatre in November 1978 in Mumbai. Jennifer died of cancer in 1984

Some of his most memorable films



Deewar

 Released in 1975, this film was one of Shashi Kapoor's finest ones. Who can forget his popular dialogue, 'mere paas maa hai', in return to a dialogue from Amitabh Bachchan, who played the role of his brother in the movie. While Shashi Kapoor played the role of a cop, Big B played the role of a don in the film. 

Prem Patra

This Bimal Roy’s beautiful love story was released in 1962. In this movie Shashi starrred as a medical student who fell in love and has a misunderstanding with another medical student. Shashi Tharoor was widley appreciated for his performance in the film 

Kalyug

This Shyam Benegal film was released in 1980. This was the story of two powerful business families, which were locked in a fight. The movie is considered as re-interpretation of Mahabharata. Shashi Kapoor played the role of a clever businessman Karan. 

Neend Hamari Khwaab Tumhare

 This fillm was released in 1966. In thie film, Shashi Kapoor played the role of a young man who was caught between the ambitions of his father and his own honesty. The film has lovely songs and a romance between him and Nanda including 'yun rootho na haseena, koi shikwa bhi nahi', among others. 

Paap Aur Punya

 Released in 1974, this film's backdrop was set in Rajasthan. Shashi Kapoor plays a double role in the film. He was both hero and the villain in the movie. Sharmila Tagore acted opposite him in the film

The Householder

 This movie was released in 1960. Shashi Kapoor played the role of a young college lecturer, who was trying to come to terms with an arranged marriage and a new career. Shashi’s acting the film was simply outstanding. 

Satyam Shivam Sundaram

This film was released in 1978. Shashi Kapoor acted opposite Zeenat Aman in the movie. It was a social drama that talked about differences between spiritual and physical love 

Amar Shakti

Released in 1978, this was a story of lost-and-found brothers, and sword sword fights. Shashi Kapoor looked superb in the sword-fights scenes 

Sharmilee

This film was released in 1971. In Sharmilee, Shashi Kapoor played clueless army officer who is in love with a the character played by Rakhee, only to be married off to a twin sister. Among its songs is Aaj Madhosh Hua Jaye Re, which is still popular among today's generation.

1. Shashi Kapoor and Nanda


Shashi Kapoor and Nanda's jodi was admired and loved by many. His reel pairing with the veteran actress remains the most memorable one. His second film, Char Diwari (1961) also starred Nanda in the lead role. Their films like Jab Jab Phool Khilen (1965), Neend Hamari Khwab Tumhare (1966), Raja Saab (1969) were a blockbuster hit at box office. People still don't miss a chance of watching them together on TV as and when the old classics play, just to catch a glimpse of this iconic jodi.

2. Shashi Kapoor and Raakhee Gulzar


Shashi Kapoor and Raakhee Gulzar had shared the big screen together in 10 films during the 1970s and 1980. Six of them were super hits. Their best works include Sharmeelee (1971), Jaanwar Aur Insaan (1972), Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Baseraa (1981), Zameen Aasmaan (1984), Pighalta Aasman (1985).

3. Shashi Kapoor and Zeenat Aman


Shashi Kapoor-Zeenat Aman have worked jointly in 10 films and the best of their on-screen chemistry can be seen in Krodhi (1981), Satyam Shivam Sundaram 1978), Roti Kapada Aur Makaan (1974).

4. Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore


The duo did as many as 12 films together. Famous films of them include Waqt (1965), Aamne Samne (1967) and Swati (1986).

5. Shashi Kapoor and Hema Malini


They worked together in Jahan Pyar Mile (1969), Abhinetri (1970), Naach Uthe Sansaar (1976), Aap Beati (1976), Apna Khoon (1978), Trishul (1978), Aandhi- Toofan (1985) and Maan Gaye Ustaad (1981).
