In a first, Virender Sehwag, Shoaib Akhtar to play cricket on ice, 5910 feet above sea level

Virender Sehwag and Shoaib Akhtar have many times had heated battles while playing for India and Pakistan respectively, but this time they will play a friendly match against each other in a frozen lake in St Moritz, Switzerland, which will also have the Swiss Alps in the background.

But, no, before you start having visions of ball flying off the ice at mind-boggling speed, let us make it clear that the matches will be played on a matting pitch!

Cricket at St Moritz has been played by amateur cricketers since 1988, but this is for the first time the frozen field will be embraced by legends like Lasith Malinga, Mahela Jayawardene, Michael Hussey, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, Daniel Vettori, Nathan McCullum, Grant Elliot, Monty Panesar and Owais Shah are expected to participate in the cricket matches. There will be two matches played at the venue on February 8 and 9, 2018.

Lake St Moritz is frozen for six months and can withstand 200 tons of weight which equals 33 elephants’ weight or 2600 people.

Apart from cricket, other sports which are hosted there are horse racing and other adventure sports

The boundary line for the game would be 30 mtr and the game would be played 5910 feet above sea level which is equal to the height of six Eiffel Towers.

Other than Viru-Akhtar rivalry, fans would love to see Malinga bowling his deadly yorkers and bamboozle batsmen with it or Shahid Afridi hitting massive sixes and make another fastest century record.

There are two teams in the mix – Royals and Diamonds. It is a T20 format match

Royals Squad
Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith, Shoiab Akhtar, Monty Panesar, Nathan McCullum, Owais Shah, Daniel Vettori, Shahid Afridi, Grant Elliot.

Diamonds Squad
