2017 Sri Lanka Tour of India - Virat Kohli Rested for the 3-Match ODI Series; Rohit Sharma Named Captain

India announced their squad for the third Test match and the ODI series against Sri Lanka on Monday Nov 27,2017


Laying speculations to rest, the selectors named Virat Kohli in the Test team but the skipper has been rested for the ODI series.

In his absence Rohit Sharma will lead the side.

Young pacer Siddharth Kaul was the new addition the limited overs setup.

Cricketnext had reported earlier that Virat Kohli would be available for the third Test.

Chief selector MSK Prasad had said that Kohli had made himself available for selection for all the three Test matches and only after that would the selectors look at resting the captain.

“There is no confusion and Kohli is available for all the three Test matches against Sri Lanka. We will look at resting him after that. He too deserves rest and the rotation policy will be applicable even for the skipper,” he said.

On the eve of the 1st Test, Kohli had said that he will ask for rest when required,

"Definitely I do need rest, why don't I need rest? When I think of the time my body should be rested, I'll ask for it. I am not a robot you can slice my skin and check I bleed," Kohli told reporters on the eve of India's first Test against Sri Lanka.
