Himachal Pradesh Goes To Polls on Nov 09,20179



The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday Oct 12,2017 said that Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh will be held on  Nov 09,2017 and counting of votes will take place on December 18,2017

An estimated 49.05 lakh voters, including over 20,000 new voters, will be exercising their franchise from 7,521 polling stations in Himachal Pradesh.

The term of the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly ends on Jan 07,2018

Chief Election Commissioner AK Jyoti said a model code of conduct, a set of dos and don'ts for political parties for their election campaign, will be effective today.

He said Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs with the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system will be used for the Himachal Pradesh election.


Himachal Pradesh has 68 assembly seats. The Congress had won 36 seats and the BJP 27 in the last assembly elections. Independent candidates had won five seats.

In Himachal Pradesh , the Congress has endorsed incumbent Virbhadra Singh as the CM candidate, while the BJP is tipped to pick either two-time CM Prem Kumar Dhumal or Union Health Minister JP Nadda.
