 Day One Friday August 25,2017

England have won the toss and chose to bat first.

West Indies were 19 for one in reply to England's first-innings 258, a deficit of 239 runs, at stumps on the first day of the second Test at Headingley on Friday.

Kraigg Brathwaite was 13 not out and nightwatchman Devendra Bishoo one not out.

Earlier, England all-rounder Ben Stokes made exactly 100 and captain Joe Root, who won the toss, 59 as he led his country for the first time on his Yorkshire home ground.

Both batsmen, however, were dropped in the slips on single figures.

All-rounder Stokes was dropped for a second time on 98 when a simple chance was shelled at mid-on.

Those three misses, which equated to 142 runs, took the edge off an improved West Indies bowling effort.

Recalled fast bowler Shannon Gabriel took four wickets for 51 runs in 17 overs and new-ball partner Kemar Roach four for 71 in 19.5.

England lead the three-match series 1-0 after an innings and 209-run victory in the inaugural day/night Test in Britain completed inside three days at Edgbaston last week.

Day Two Saturday August 26,2017

Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope both scored superb hundreds as the West Indies secured a first-innings lead against England on the second day of the second Test at Headingley on Saturday Aug 26,2017

The West Indies were 329/5 at stumps, 71 runs ahead of England's 258.

Opening batsman Brathwaite (134) and Shai Hope, whose 147 not out was his maiden Test century, put on 246 for the fourth wicket.

The Barbados duo's partnership was all the more impressive as they came together with the West Indies in trouble at 35 for three after James Anderson had dismissed Kyle Hope, Shai's older brother, to move to within five wickets of becoming the first England bowler to take 500 in Tests.

Kraigg Brathwaite celebrates after scoring a century against England.

Kraigg Brathwaite notches up sixth Test ton with a massive six against England; equals Chris Gayle's record of six Test centuries before the age of 25

Adding to it, the 24-year-old is now the second Windies opener to notch up a century on English soil in the last 28 years of their cricketing history. Gayle was the other, who had done so back in 2004, in Oval when he had struck an 87-ball 105.
