2017 ICC Women's World Cup Final England Vs India @ Lord's Sunday July 23,2017 - MS Dhoni Has a Special Message for Mithali Raj & Girls

MS Dhoni wished Mithali Raj and the girls ahead of the summit clash between India and England at the Lord’s. Known to be a cool customer, Dhoni showed his superstitious side as well in the video shot by host broadcasters Star.

Dhoni made it clear that he would refrain from using certain words as he didn’t want to jinx the team which had done really well so far in the tournament. Dhoni also said that he would like to share his experience, having been in this situation during the 2011 World Cup.

“Cricket is a game where superstition is involved and I am definitely superstitious about a few words, so I will not say those words. But, I will definitely share my experience and what I think is important. To start off, I think the women’s team has done exceedingly well throughout the World Cup,” he told the women’s team in a video shot by Star.

Dhoni also emphasised on the need to enjoy the moment rather than getting overawed by the situation. “What is important is to embrace the occasion. To go into the finals, to win the finals. If it happens the next time, you will have to win all the games in the league stage and the quarter-finals or semi-finals (as per the format) to get into the final. So what’s important is not to focus on the result, not to think ‘what if we win, what if we don’t win’. What is important is that as a team you have done really well, all of you have contributed. That one extraordinary performance will give you the World Cup. It can be a brilliant catch, it can be a good run-out, it can be one good innings or one good bowling spell. So that is what it boils down to,” he said.

Lastly, MSD asked the girls to keep it simple and make this day a historic one for Indian cricket. “Keep it simple, enjoy the occasion as a World Cup final is something that doesn’t happen very often so embrace the occasion and definitely enjoy the moment because that is what cricket is all about. It is a sport and it is meant to be enjoyed, definitely we are backing you and there is something that we want. But let’s make it a historic day for India,” he signed off.
