With turmoil enveloping his administration at home, US President Donald Trump heads abroad on Friday May 19,2019 for a trip the White House hopes will shift focus away from domestic controversies and on to his foreign policy agenda.
US President Donald Trump leaves for Saudi Arabia on Friday afternoon May 19,2017 and will make stops next week in Israel, Belgium, and Italy.
US President Donald Trump is bucking tradition by journeying away from North America for his first foreign trek; the past five presidents visited Canada or Mexico as their first venture abroad.
The president's first stop will be in Saudi Arabia, before continuing to Israel, Italy, Vatican City and Belgium. Along the way he will meet with King Salman of Saudi Arabia, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Pope Francis, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, King Philippe of Belgium and the leaders of the G7 countries, among others.
The trip was billed as a chance to visit places sacred to three of the world’s major religions while creating face time with Arab, Israeli and European leaders.
