What is a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and how it works

Like the heart, a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is a pump that helps the left ventricle—the heart’s main pumping chamber—push blood out.

 Only, it is a battery operated mechanical pump. 

It is portable and patients can walk around with it.
