The Central Board Of Certification has struck again. Raveena Tandon’s Maatr, which was due for a release on April 21,2017 has been banned by CBFC for its graphic scenes.
A rape-and-revenge thriller, Maatr’s has been directed by Ashtar Sayed and features Raveena Tandon as a single mother.
On Saturday April 15,2017 the committee watched the film and refused to certify it due to its graphic and violent scenes and because the film had violated several guidelines.
"Maatr has graphic and gruesome violence against women. The film is carpeted with maa-behen expletives. We can't even recommend that the abuses be beeped as they run through the course of the film in an ongoing rush of profanity,"
“Rape sequences are always tricky. We never know when they stop becoming shocking and get into the voyeuristic/titillating zone. In Maatr, the women’s violation is subject to allegations of excessive elaboration. Though the film is well-intended and hardhitting, we cannot take the risk of incurring the wrath of organizations devoted to prevention of violation against women,”
The makers have now appealed to the revising committee to intervene. And till the time the committee does not certify, the film will not be able to release in theatres.
