18-year-old Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has taken the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by storm in a very short span. In the four matches that he has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament, the leg-spinner has managed to pick a wicket in the first over in all his four outings so far.
Rashid became the first Afghan player to feature in the cash-rich league after SRH shelled out Rs 4 Crores (Base Price: 30 Lakh) for the youngster in the IPL auction held in February. And the decision to do so has paid dividends thus far for the defending champions as Rashid has been involved in the Purple Cap fight right from the word go.
But Rashid's uncanny knack of taking wickets in the his first over of the innings has been the talk of the town.
In his first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rashid gave SRH a timely breakthrough by dismissing Mandeep Singh on just his fourth delivery of his first over. The leg-spinner ended the match with figures of 2/36 and played a starring role in Hyderabad's win.
Meanwhile, in the second match against Gujarat Lions, Rashid ended the match with figures of 3/19 in four overs, which helped him get his hands on the Purple cap for a brief period. But Rashid once again provided David Warner with a breakthrough in his first over of the match as he got rid of the danger-man Brendon McCullum.
Against Mumbai Indians, Rashid dismissed skipper Rohit Sharma in his first over but could not save Hyderabad from a 4-wicket defeat.
In his fourth match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Saturday April 15,2017, Rashid once again picked the prized wicket of skipper Gautam Gambhir in his first over of the match to keep his unique run going in the Indian Premier League
