Telangana State Finance Minister Etala Rajender Monday March 13,2017 presented a development and welfare-oriented Rs 1,49,446-crore Budget for 2017-18.
The budgetary allocation for several sectors, including agriculture, power, and for various welfare measures is higher over 2016-17.
The Finance Minister said that the State has registered strong growth in spite of relatively lower collection from stamps and registration due to demonetisation.
Presenting his fourth Budget, he said Telangana is projected to achieve a Gross State Domestic Project (GSDP) growth of over 10.1 per cent during the current fiscal.
Seeking to balance welfare measures with development initiatives, the Chief Minister has allotted Rs 5,943 crore for the agriculture sector and Rs 4,000 crore towards fourth installment of loan waiver scheme for the farm sector.
The State Government's pet sector of irrigation has been allotted Rs 23, 675 crore, panchayati raj Rs 14,723 crore, roads Rs 5,033 crore, power Rs 4,203 crore, health Rs 5,976 crore and education Rs 12,705 crore.
Glossing over the State achievements, he said a number of sectors hitherto neglected have got special focus and higher allocation.
Even if the power demand shoots up to 10,000 MW, he said the State is ready to meet such high demand.
