Himachal Pradesh state cabinet on Thursday March 02,2017 approved Dharamsala situated in the snow-capped Dhauladhar range, as the second capital of the hill state
This comes following Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbahadra Singh's announcement, on January 19, 2017 that the government was actively considering a proposal to make Dharamshala as state's winter capital
The announcement is significant as 25 out of 68 Assembly seats fall in Kangra, Una and Hamirpur districts, and Dharamsala is important for the lower areas of Himachal Pradesh, including Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur and Una districts.
Note
Himachal Pradesh will also be going for the state elections later this year.
