Thomas Perez Elected as the new Chairman of the US Democratic Party Saturday Feb 25,2017

The Democratic National Committee elected former labour secretary Thomas Perez as its chair on Saturday Feb 25,2017

Thomas Perez, progressive in political views but guarded in strategy, is the first Latino to head the DNC

The fierce battle that preceded the election of Mr. Perez showed that the deep ideological and personality clashes that crippled the party and cost the November 2016  presidential election that it had taken for granted have not been resolved yet.

Thomas Perez, supported by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, defeated Keith Ellison, who was supported by Senator Bernie Sanders, in a close contest which was widely seen as an “establishment versus revolution” battle for the future of the party.

Keith Ellison, an African-American, is also the first Muslim member of the U.S Congress
