Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) Files FIR Against Dental Council of India Chief Dibyendu Mazumdar and three others on Graft Charges

Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has registered a case against President of Dental Council of India (DCI) Dibyendu Mazumdar and three others for alleged cheating and corruption for favouring a dental college in increasing seats.
The FIR was filed under provisions of criminal conspiracy, cheating and Prevention of Corruption Act against Mazumdar, DCI former officiating Secretary S K Ojha, Chairman Vananchal Dental College and Hospital, Garhwa, Jharkhand and Nilambar Pitambar University, Palamu, Vice Chancellor Firoz Ahmad.
After registering the FIR, the agency carried out searches at number of locations yesterday including the residence of Mazumdar and premises of other accused, CBI sources said in New Delhi on Wednesday.
DCI is entrusted to regulate courses in Dental surgery across the country and also carry out inspections to monitor infrastructure available with Dental Colleges.
It is alleged that Mazumdar's Presidentship would have ceased on May 31, 2015 but in order to continue as President he acquired membership from the Nilambar Pitambar University, in clandestine manner, by claiming to be a visiting honorary Professor at the Vananchal Dental College and Hospital.
For acquiring this membership, he showed favours by granting permission for an intake of 100 seats for courses run there, doubling it from 50, the CBI FIR alleged.
It alleged that increase was granted knowing that the college does not have infrastructure as per DCI guidelines.
Armed with membership from the University, Mazumdar managed to become the President of DCI for the second term in an "irregular manner", it alleged.
It alleged that his election as Member, DCI under section 3(d) of Dentist Act, 1948 from Nilamber-Pitamber University was "illegal and invalid".
Mazumdar allegedly got himself appointed as visiting faculty in VDCH even as he was was never appointed as Dental Faculty in the University and the VDCH, CBI claimed.
