AB de Villiers Breaks Sourav Ganguly's Record; Fastest to 9000 ODI Runs Saturday Feb 25,2017

South Africa batting maestro AB de Villiers added another feather in his cap as he became the fastest to reach 9000 runs in ODI's

AB De Villiers reached the milestone during the third ODI against New Zealand at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Saturday Feb 25,2017

A record-setting innings by AB de Villiers set South Africa up for a resounding 159-run win in the third ODI against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday to go 2-1 up in the series.

AB De Villiers, who took 205 innings to reach the feat, overtook former India captain Sourav Ganguly who held the record in 228 innings.

In the list of batsmen to reach 9,000 ODI runs, AB de Villiers and Ganguly are followed by Sachin Tendulkar (235), Brian Lara (239), Ricky Pointing (242), Jacques Kallis (242) and MS Dhoni (244)

AB De Villiers is the 18th player and second South African behind Jacques Kallis to reach the 9,000 mark but has the highest average of 53.86 and is the only one of the leading scorers to have a strike-rate better than 100.

Tendulkar has the most ODI runs with 18,426 but averaged 44.83 with a strike rate of 86.23.
