An incentive for first-time women voters in Goa has drawn mixed reactions - some are offended by what they believe is a sexist message, others appreciate the novelty.
Pink "women-only" polling booths have been set up in every constituency of the popular holiday state, where elections will be held tomorrow.
A total of 32,354 first time voters are entitled to cast ballot in Saturday`s state assembly polls. Those voting for the first time will be handed pink teddy bears.
"The teddy bears were given to first time voters in 40 specially designed polling booths across Goa," Chief Electoral Officer Kunal told
Pink balloons and pink posters with women's empowerment messages at the booths are aimed at "encouraging women to vote", say officials.
The booths will only have women officers and security personnel.
