India is celebrating its 68th Republic Day in the presence of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Chief Guest of the Republic Day parade.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar are present at Rajpath for the grand celebrations.
The Republic Day Parade will showcase India's military strength and achievements in a range of areas and its diverse culture at the Rajpath on Thursday.
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the chief guest of the Republic Day parade.
Led by Wing Commander Ramesh Kumar Dubey, the parade will start with four Mi—17 helicopters, flying an Indian flag and three other helicopters flying ensigns of the Army, Navy and the Air Force, will shower flower petals.
For the first time in the history of Republic Day celebrations, the ‘black cat’ commandos of the elite counter-terror force NSG will march down Rajpath today.
In a rare flypast for a single-engine aircraft, the indigenously developed light combat aircraft, Tejas, will set a record today. Three of these aircraft will take off from Bikaner and fly in victory formation over Rajpath.
Lt. General Manoj Mukhund Naravane is commanding the R-Day parade.
Aboood Musabeh is leading the UAE Command. The mixed contingent of the UAE comprises of 149 soldiers
The contingents at the Parade
Akash Weapon System of 27 Air Defence (Missile) Regiment led by Captain Anendra Bansal & Lieutenant Garima.
Missile Regiment, Mobile Autonomous Launcher of the Brahmos Missile system led by Captain Sunith Lopes.
A military band of the UAE comprising of 35 musicians march past the Rajpath.
First contingent of 61 Cavalry led by Captain Pritam Mishra. This is the only serving active horse regiment in the world.
Security Arrangements
The national capital has been wrapped in an unprecedented security cover with thousands of security force personnel keeping a hawk-eye vigil to ward off any terror strike or untoward incident during the 68th Republic Day celebrations.
Mobile hit teams, anti-aircraft guns and sharpshooters were deployed to keep a watch on the eight-km-long parade route from Rajpath to Red Fort besides nearby localities.
Elaborate air defence measures, including deployment of anti-aircraft guns, were also put in place to secure the air space.
Nearly 60,000 security personnel drawn from Delhi Police and Central security forces have been deployed in Central Delhi. Police is also using counter-drone technology to thwart any attack or identify any suspicious flying object
