Pope Francis delivers the Urbi et Orbi (Latin for 'to the city and to the world') Christmas Day blessing from the main balcony of St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican Sunday Dec 25,2016
Tens of thousands of faithful entering St Peter's Square to hear his Urbi et Orbi (Latin for 'to the city and to the world') blessing were subjected to extensive security checks amid fears of an ISIS attack.
'Today this message goes out to the ends of the earth to reach all peoples, especially those scarred by war and harsh conflicts that seem stronger than the yearning for peace,' he said.
The Pope, who is 80, also spoke about Nigeria where Boko Haram have been using suicide bombers as young as ten and he said: 'Fundamentalist terrorism exploits even children.'
He also mentioned conflicts in Africa, Ukraine, Myanmar, Korea, Colombia and Venezuela.
