Indian Ministry of External Afairs (MEA) Eases Rules for Acquiring Passport Friday Dec 23,2016


The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday Dec 23,2016 liberalised rules for acquiring passport and now applicants will have more choice for submitting proof of date of birth.
The date of birth proof will now include birth certificate issued by municipal corporation, matriculation certificate, PAN card, Aadhar, pay pension order, driving licence, voter identity card and policy bonds.
In case of single parents or cases where mother and child don't want father’s name, the applicant can now submit the name of one parent or legal guardian, and not both parents as earlier required.
Also, the number of annextures required to fill up is reduced to 9 from 15.
The passport authorities have also been directed to accept self declaration by the applicant.
The MEA has also done away with the marriage certificate in case of married applicant.
The passport application will not require applicant to give name of spouse in case of separation or divorce.
