Virender Sehwag hit One Day’s second double hundred and the then record of 219 against West Indies at Indore in 2011. India had batted first and Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag gave India a start of 176 in 22 overs. Gambhir scored 67 runs and Sehwag hit 219 off 149 balls with 25 fours and 7 sixes. It was the highest score in ODIs until Rohit Sharma hit 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014.
Sehwag’s 219 took India to its highest ODI total of 418/5 in 50 overs. West Indies scored 265 losing the match by 153 runs.

Sanath Jayasuriya had a special affection towards India which resulted in India’s most humiliating defeat. India met Sri Lanka in the final of Coca Cola Champions Trophy in 2000-01 and Sri Lanka batted first. Sri Lanka scored 299/5 with Jayasuriya scoring 189 off 161 balls with 21 fours and 4 fours. Jayasuriya lost the chance to break the then world record of 194, but it was enough for Sri Lanka to score 299. India could only manage to score 54 runs with Chaminda Vaas taking 5/14 and Muralidharan taking 3/6. Sri Lanka won the match and the trophy by 245 runs

Sachin Tendulkar made 186* in his return to Captaincy in 1999 against New Zealand in Hyderabad. Sachin along with Rahul Dravid (153 off 153 balls) made 331 runs together, a world record that was beaten recently. Sachin scored 186* with 20 fours and 3 sixes and with Dravid took India to 376/2 in 50 overs. New Zealand tried hard but could only make 202 all out to lose the match by 174 runs.
4. Sir Viv Richards (West Indies) – 181(125 balls 16×4 7×6)

Sir Viv Richards scored 181 off 125 balls against Sri Lanka in Karachi in the 1987 World Cup encounter. Desmond Haynes made 105 to give support to the skipper in every form and formed a 182 run partnership with Richards who hit 16 fours and 7 sixes in his innings. West Indies scored 360 /4 and stopped Sri Lanka at 169/4 to win the match by 191 runs.

Kapil Dev broke Glen Turner’s record for highest score in an ODI innings when he made 175* from 138 balls. Kapil Dev walked in to bat with India 17/5 against minnows Zimbabwe and with the help from Roger Binny (22) and Syed Kirmani (24*), Kapil hit India out of trouble because had India lost the match, it would have been very difficult for India to qualify for the semis. Kapil’s daredevil innings consisted of 16 fours and 6 sixes and took India to 266/8, a truly Captain’s innings.
Zimbabwe was bowled out for 235 with Madan Lal taking 3/42 in 11 overs giving India the win by 31 runs.
6. Glenn Turner (New Zealand) – 171* (201 balls 16×4 2×6)

New Zealand Captain Glen Turner scored the first score of 150 of ODI history against East Africa in the very first World Cup in 1975. Turner scored 171* from 201 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes, making the highest ODI score of that time. He got support from John Parker (66 off 68 balls). New Zealand scored 309/5 in 60 overs. Glen Turner also played the most balls in an ODI innings given the match had 60 overs per innings.
East Africa managed 128/8 and lost the match by 181 runs
