Cyclone threat posed by the Bay of Bengal storm Kyant is virtually off
with India Met Department (IMD) confirming that it has weakened into a
deep depression.
It will further weaken into a depression during the next 24 hours, an
IMD update this morning Thursday Oct 27,2016 said.
Earlier, a US Joint Typhoon Warning Centre
(JTWC) update had said that 'Kyant' had started weakening from as early
as 0230 hours.
The IMD update said that the deep depression over West-central Bay of
Bengal was located at 0530 hours this morning to 320 km south-east of
Vishakhapatnam, 460 km east of Machilipatnam, and 600 km east-northeast
of Nellore.
It is most likely to move west-southwestwards and weaken further into a
depression before making a landfall over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh or
adjoining North Tamil Nadu coast.
Squally winds speeding to 35- to 45 km/hr and gusting to 55 km/hr is
likely along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast during next 24 hours.
The sea condition will be 'rough' along this coast. Fishermen are
advised not to venture into sea from the coast during next two days.
Light to moderate rainfall (1- to 4 cm) has been forecast at many places
over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next two days.
Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall (6.5 cm or
more) is likely at isolated places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh
from Friday to Sunday and over North Coastal Tamil Nadu from Friday to
Monday.
