9000+ Runs in ODI's
Continuing his Record breaking spree M S Dhoni on Sunday Oct 23,2016 became the third wicketkeeper-batsman to reach 9000 ODI Runs during the third match of the New Zealand series at Mohali.

The India skipper, known for his ability to hit sixes, reached the landmark with a monster hit off the fifth ball of the 17th over, bowled by Mitchell Santner.

M S Dhoni now joined an elite three-man group of Kumar Sangakkara and Adam Gilchrist. He is also the fifth Indian to reach the mark, after Mohammad Azharuddin (9378), Sachin Tendulkar (18,426), Sourav Ganguly (11,363) and Rahul Dravid (10,889).

In terms with innings, he is the third fastest Indian and sixth overall to reach the 9000 ODI runs.

M S Dhoni entered his 281st ODI match with 8978 runs in 243 innings, with at least four records in sight.

M S Dhoni after crossing his 9000 ODI runs, hit another six off Santner again, off the fourth ball of the 21st over, to become the skipper with most ODI sixes, surpassing Ricky Ponting's 194.


M S Dhoni is the first batsman to complete 9000 runs with an average of 50 or more. Jacques Kallis' average of 45.68, when he got to 9000 runs, was the previous highest.

Almost two-thirds of Dhoni's 9000 ODI runs have come as captain and all of them with the extra responsibility of keeping

Mohammad Azharuddin is the only other batsman to get at least half his 9000 runs while captaining in ODIs. Azharuddin had made 5147 runs as India captain at the end of the innings in which he completed 9000 runs

 Most Sixes in ODI's
M S Dhoni  then broke Sachin Tendulkar's record of 195 ODI sixes, most by an Indian, in the 27th over, bowled James Neesham.

But the overall record for most sixes on ODI still belongs to Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (351), followed by Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuria (270).

West Indian Chris Gayle has 238, Kiwi Brendon McCullum with 200 are ahead of Dhoni and Tendulkar.

150+ Stumpings in International Cricket
M S Dhoni entered the match (his 444 overall) with 149 stumpings against his name, and in the 29th over, the skipper affected his 150th to dismiss Ross Taylor off the bowling of Amit Mishra.
The duo combined again, in the 31st over, to remove Luke Ronchi which became Dhoni's 151st stumping victim.
Dhoni already has 38 and 22 stumpings in Tests and Twenty20 Internationals.

Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara managed 139 (in 464) stumpings in his illustrious career. Another Lankan wicket-keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana with 101 (in 234) stumpings is third on the list.
No other wicket-keeper has managed to breach the 100-mark in stumpings.
