Defending champion India showed complete dominance and hammered a
young Thailand side 73-20 in the second semi-final in Ahmedabad on
Friday Oct 21,2016 and will face Iran in the final on Saturday Oct 22,2016
India made a brilliant start with raiders Pradeep Narwal and Ajay Thakur completely destroying the Thailand defence and the hosts were leading 36-8 at half-time. Manjeet Chillar and Surjeet were solid in defence and didn’t let the Thailand raiders make a comeback.
The Anup Kumar-led side gave away just 20 points to their opponents in four out of six games. India, who are unbeaten since losing the first game against Korea, scored 42 raid points against Thailand's paltry 15.
In tackle points also, India were in complete command and scored 18 points in comparison to Thailand's four. The hosts also had a whopping 12 all outs in the game.
Seven times world champion India finished second in Pool A, only behind South Korea, who defeated them in their opening match. After a shocking loss in the first game, India made a stunning comeback to win the remaining four pool matches convincingly and enter the last four of the tournament.
Iran had earlier defeated South Korea in a low-scoring thriller where they came back from 11-13 down to beat the Koreans by 28-22. Korea managed to put pressure on Iran till the end of first half but the Asian powerhouse made a solid comeback in the second half.
Meraj was the top scorer for Iran seven points followed by Abozar Mighani four crucial points for his side.
