US President Barack Obama has nominated a Muslim to serve as a federal judge for the first time in U.S. history.
'I am pleased to nominate Mr. Qureshi to
serve on the United States District Court bench,' Obama said in a
statement. 'I am confident he will serve the American people with
integrity and a steadfast commitment to justice.'
US President Barack Obama put forward attorney Abid Riaz Qureshi of Maryland for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
But
there is a chance he will not be voted into the position, as Senate
Republicans have continuously blocked the president's judicial picks
.
US President Barack Obama
has four months left in office, but Hillary Clinton could pick Qureshi
for the same seat if she wins the election in November.
If Trump is voted into the White House, it is likely he will choose someone else.
