Sonam Kapoor Launches Initiative That Teaches Kids ‘Global Goals’ Lessons

On the occasion of National Teachers’ Day , Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor launched the World’s Largest Lesson India Programme in Gurgaon on Monday Sep 05,2016

This initiative, supported by UNICEF and the Global Goals Campaign, aims to teach every child in India a lesson about the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

Launched in September 2015 globally, the lessons have taken place in 160 countries so far.

The study materials includes interactive lessons, comic books and an animated film introduced by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, tennis champion Serena Williams and international football star Neymar Jr.

In India alone, the World’s Largest Lesson has reached an estimated 3 million children who watched an animation film on the Global Goals.

Speaking at the occasion, Ms Kapoor said that proper education can build a great future and lead a child to imbibe good qualities. She also said that she plans to finish her under graduation at the age of 30 as not studying after Class 12 is her biggest regret.

“The initiative will do more than teach children about the global goals,” said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.

“It will engage them in the efforts to achieve those goals and educate them about the challenges that are shaping their futures. It will also encourage them to drive change in their own communities,” he added.

The launch saw participation from 250 eminent educationalists, UN Global Goals champions, members of civil society, UN bodies, corporate fraternity, youth groups, students, teachers and Sonam Kapoor, the ambassador of the World’s Largest Lesson, India chapter.
