Trinamool Congress leader and former West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra on
Friday Sep 09,2016 was granted bail by an Alipore court in the Saradha scam case.
The CBI counsel reportedly objected to his bail plea, stating that he still had access to key witnesses in the case.
He will be released from Alipore Central Jail once he furnishes a bail bond of Rs 30 lakh.
Madan Mitra was arrested in December 2014 for his alleged role in cheating investors of over Rs 1,000 crore in the Ponzi scam.
He was briefly admitted in a hospital after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness. Mitra was taken back to Alipore Central Jail in June 2015 after he was discharged.
He previously appealed to the CBI to grant him bail in the case as he had been cooperating with the investigation agency for more than year now
“Just like Sita’s agnipariksha, I have been giving agnipariksha to it for the last 18 months,what should I do next? I have only one appeal to the CBI, give me a chance,” he said in June.
