Her religion is the last thing on my mind, says Reshma Begum who sends her 5-year-old daughter to get lessons in Quran from Puja.
A class 12 student, Puja Kushwaha, teaches Quran to 35 Muslims children in the communally sensitive Agra district,Uttar Pradesh,India
Puja holds free classed at the temple courtyard as most of the children come from poor economic background.
Puja learnt his Quranic skills from Sangeeta Begum, a woman of mixed faith, in the city some time back. Sangeeta’s father was a Muslim and her mother a Hindu.
Puja has a good command over difficult Arabic phonology involving variety of syllables and consonants
“Sangeeta taught me an important tenant of Islam that there is no point gaining knowledge if you don't share it,” says Puja.
Puja says that Sangeeta asked her to keep this legacy alive.
70-year-old Haji Jamiluddin Qureshi, a prominent Muslim leader in the city expressed his pleasure on this saying it's rare to see such examples of communal harmony in these times and that Islam does not object to anyone learning Arabic or Quran.
