Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday June 14,2016 met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in Delhi and discussed the possibility of extension the Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) in that state.
Ms Sitharaman also requested her to appoint an officer to take care of the issues of export-oriented industries in the state with a view to promoting trade.
"I spoke about extending the (VCIC) down south to Tuticorin and also offered that it can be extended westward till Colachel," the commerce and industry minister told reporters after her meeting.
Ms Sitharaman said that the Chief Minister accepted the suggestion and stated that she would send a team to the commerce and industry ministry to discuss the matter
