This Portable Hotel Made of Discarded Shipping Containers Can Give Ordinary Hotels a Run for Their Money

Taking the idea of being eco-friendly to a whole new level, young hotel entrepreneur Tanmay Bathwal has built India's first portable concept hotel using only shipping containers.

Yes, you heard that right. Bathwal has utilized unused or discarded containers to build 'Beetle Smartotels' - the unique hotel is all set to open this month in Gujarat's Mundra-SEZ with 141 keys.

Contrary to the traditional ‘brick and mortar’ hotels which take a minimum of 3-4 years to get rolling, the Smartotel portable hotels can be built in just 3 months, amalgamating convenience and luxury at one go.

Realising the demand for fuss-free, movable rooms ideal for remote locations like industry clusters and venues holding big ticket cultural conventions, Bathwal has stepped into a domain where no one has tread before.

“These moving hotels use the concept of recycling and are environmentally conducive. They are built out of unused or discarded containers ensuring speedy construction without quality compromise. The rooms have plush interiors, elegant décor, top security mechanisms and safe deposit lockers in place with entertainment and smart use of technology like any other big hotel. Also, we are capable of meeting demand and supply with ease,” says Bathwal.

The entrepreneur has taken measures to bridge the gap in the availability of temporary yet quality accommodation in record time by manufacturing parts of the portable hotels in Ahmedabad itself. The company plans to add 2000 portable hotel rooms by 2018 nationwide
.
Each Beetle Smartotel is being built with an option to choose from portable service apartments and rooms suitable for single business travellers.
