Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has approved the power tariff and bus fares hike in the state which will be effective from June 27 and July 01,2016 respectively.
Government clarified that the decision is an attempt to protect institutions like Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) and Discoms ro run effectively.
As per government directive, power tariff was increased by 7.5% which will bring additional revenue of 1.5 crores to the government. "Commuters will also be generating additional revenue if over 286 crores on account of increased bus fares," government sources said.
Nearly 60 lakh domestic consumers (out of 86 lakh connections in Telangana) have been spared the power tariff hike. "Majority of the hike burden will be borne by commercial, IT and industrial sectors," government sources said.
Also, there is also no tariff hike for nearly 20 lakh agriculture consumers except for horticulture nurseries.
The TSERC has also reduced the domestic category slabs from eight to seven while revising the tariff upward for consumers using more than 100 units of energy per month.
