Prohibition in a Phased Manner in Tamil Nadu - 500 Tasmac shops to be shut today identified Sunday June 19,2016

Following Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa signing the file to wind up 500 state-owned Tasmac outlets, as part of her poll assurance to implement prohibition in a phased manner in the state, the government on Saturday night issued orders to this effect while directing the Tasmac officials to redeploy the affected staff.

The shops will be shut from Sunday June 19,2016

A maximum of 201 outlets in the Madurai region, followed by 133 in the Tiruchi region, 60 in Coimbatore, 58 in Chennai and 48 in Salem region will be shut down.

The closure of 500 Tasmac outlets and reducing the business hours of these liquor shops across Tamil Nadu by two hours was among the few files Ms Jayalalithaa signed immediately after she was sworn in as chief minister for the sixth time on May 23,2016

As per a government order issued by R. Kirlosh Kumar, managing director, Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Ltd, the recommendations of the district collectors, senior regional mangers of Tasmac and relevant details submitted by the district managers of Tasmac were taken into consideration while arriving at the list of 500 shops which are to be closed.

While closing the shops, the stocks have to be transferred back to the godowns and properties other than the stock such as furniture, cash chest box, all records relating to the shops, billing machines, bottle coolers and other fixed assets, etc., should be handed over to the district manager concerned. This will be verified by the asset registers in the district managers’ offices.

All the staff affected by the move to wind up the operation in 500 outlets will be redeployed in their category viz. supervisors, salesmen and assistant salesmen and posted in the same districts in the existing vacancies.  Any surplus in manpower would be posted in regions where there are vacancies
