Google Doodles on Karl Landsteiner's 148th Birthday: American Physician Who First Discovered Blood Groups Tuesday June 14,2016


Google is celebrating the 148th birth anniversary of an an Austrian and American biologist and physician - Karl Landsteiner(June 14, 1868 – June 26, 1943)

The ace physician has been credited for having first discovered the main blood types A, B, AB, and O way back in 1901.

As a result of his groundbreaking work, the first successful blood transfusion occurred in 1907 which further led to advancements in the field of medicine.

He is further acknowledged for laying the groundwork that led to the discovery of polio virus, a disease that affected millions of children worldwide, and still has traces left in some parts of the world.

Thanking the renowned physician, Google has posted a doodle on its homepage with an animated Landsteiner standing besides four test tubes containing different blood type samples.
