Google Doodle Honours Legendary Bollywood Music Composer R D Burman's 77th Birthday Monday June 27,2016

One of the most popular Bollywood music composers in the 1980s, Rahul Dev Burman or R D Burman was born on June 27, 1939 in Kolkata.

Assumed to follow his father SD Burman's footsteps, Pancham Da, as R D Burman was nicknamed, became one of the legendary composers of the Indian film and music industry.

The composer revolutionised Bollywood music with his unique compositions which had music produced out of anything from laughter to clinking glasses.

He worked extensively with Asha Bhosle, who also became his second wife, and Kishore Kumar. His compositions not only topped the charts back then but serve as an influence even to the present-day composers.

Honouring the music composer who started making music at the young age of 9 and brought influences from all over the world, from disco, to funk, to cabaret, Google has posted a doodle on its homepage which is visible in India and Sri Lanka.

R D passed away at the age of 54 in 1994, leaving behind a vast body of work, which continues to inspire every generation of music lovers.

Starting with Chhote Nawab, a 1961 movie in which he sang after actor Mehmood recommended his name to the director, RD Burman's film career spanned over three decades.
