At 5.3cm rain, Chennai on Tuesday June 07,2016 became the wettest June month in
the past five years after the 2011 record, where the city saw over
7.5cm.
However, Wednesday evening June 08,2016’s heavy downpour in the city may not continue on Thursday, as the upper air circulation is no more present in the city.
According to S. Balachandran, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre, the state will see scattered rains on Thursday June 09,2016 although thunderstorm activity is predicted for Chennai and other northern districts. Though hailstorm is not unusual to the city, weatherman said that it is unusual in June.
