Consecration of the 350-year-old Kapaleeswarar temple at Mylapore in Chennai was performed on Sunday morning amid chanting of Lord Shiva's name.
Temple hereditary priests Kapali and Venkatasubramanian performed the kumbabhishekam (consecration) at 8.45am. The last time consecration of Kapali temple was performed in 2004.
First the consecration was done for the 100-foot temple tower and followed by abhishekams of 14 other vimanams (small towers). Priests and their assistants were perched atop all the towers, and after the abhishekam was performed, water from the kalasam was sprinkled on devotees standing on the towers
