Energising the body and mind

Tracy Ni from China was in Hyderabad to conduct a Vajra Dance workshop on behalf of the World Buddhist Culture Trust.

“This form of dance consists of meditative movements. In this dance form, the focus always is ‘to be in the present’,” she says.

The Vajra Dance, through sound and movement integrates 3 aspects of our existence -

  • Body
  • energy and
  • mind
There are 4 different ways of the dance —
  •  Dance of the Vajra
  •  Dance of the Three Vajras
  •  Dance of the Song of Vajra and
  •  Dance of the Vajra of Khalong Dorjekar

Practised all over the world, the Vajra is performed on a specially created ‘Mandala’ of five colours which symbolises the inner dimension of the individual chakras and the outer dimension of the world.

In 2011, Vajra was officially recognised by the Conseil International de la Danse in Paris, the official organisation recognised by Unesco for all forms of dance in all the countries.
