Bengaluru to Get its First Ever Underground Metro from Nayandahalli to Baiyappanahalli Today Friday April 29,2016


In a big step, towards dealing with city's traffic problems, Namma metro will open in Bengaluru on Friday April 29,2016

But, commuters will have to wait till Saturday April 30,2016 6 AM to take the first ride.


The underground metro's first phase stretch from Nayandahalli to Baiyappanahalli will be inaugurated on Friday evening. 



The stretch was inaugurated by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Vidhan Soudha station.


Here are the highlights of the new segment.
- Connects Baiyappanahalli in East Bengaluru to Nayandahalli in South-East Bengaluru
- Total length is 18.10 km. Duration of journey is 33 minutes
- A little over 4 km would be underground stretch
- This is the first underground metro stretch in south India
- Metro enters underground at Bengaluru City Central Railway station and exits at Cubbon Park
- It covers State Assembly, Secretariat Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka High Court and other important places.

The agency responsible for its implementation is the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), a joint venture of the Central government and the Karnataka government.
