Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announces odd-even from April 15-30, claims 81% in its favour Thursday Feb 11,2016

Odd-even scheme to return from April 15-30,2016  in Delhi

The second phase of the odd-even road rationing scheme will be implemented in Delhi from April 15 to 30, 2016 Delhi Chief  Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, Delhi Chief  Minister Arvind Kejriwal said a decision on whether to make the scheme permanent cannot be taken now as the public transport system in the capital is not yet up to speed.

Women drivers will be exempt in the second phase as well, but the other categories were yet to be finalised, the chief minister said.

Based on a recent survey held by the AAP government, Kejriwal claimed that more than 80% of the people of Delhi were in favour of reintroduction of the scheme.

The first phase of the scheme to check pollution -- in which odd and even number vehicles use the roads alternately -- was implemented in the national capital from January 1 to 15,2016

While the trial gave mixed results in checking pollution levels, most people felt it definitely decongested the city's roads.

Single women drivers, VVIP vehicles and the physically challenged were among the 25 categories exempted from the scheme in the first phase.
